India Evangelical Lutheran Church often referred to as IELC is a confessional Lutheran denomination. It is spread over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Southern Karnataka, parts of Andhra Pradesh and Mumbai. It has Mission bases at New Delhi, Amritsar and Orissa.

During the 19th century the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) was indirectly involved in mission work in India by supporting the Leipzig Lutheran Mission (LLM). K.G.T. Naether and T.F. Mohn, who were working in the South East part of Tamil Nadu, broke away from LLM due to doctrinal difference
The Trivandrum Synod (TS), earlier called as Trivandrum District Synod (TDS), comprises of the congregations mainly within the State of Kerala and part of Kanyakumari District in Tamil Nadu It is one of the THREE Synods of India Evangelical Lutheran Church (IELC). The Trivandrum Synod was formed in November 1956, along with Nagercoil Synod.
